Apple Juice

Homemade Apple Juice

Be the first to review!
There’s nothing to it when you want some fresh apple juice. It’s a light, naturally sweet affair: just cook down some red apples till they’re soft, put them in a blender with the pan juices and run it through a strainer for a nice, even consistency. You can add a touch of honey if you like, or some lemon to put a bit of zing in it. Put it over ice and you have a clean, no-fuss way to quench your thirst with something the whole family will like.

Ingredients

  • 9 red apples cubed or sliced
  • 1 liter water
  • 1–2 tbsp honey optional
  • 1 tsp lemon juice optional
  • ice cubes optional

Equipment

  • 1 large pot
  • 1 cutting board
  • 1 kitchen knife
  • 1 measuring cup
  • 1 blender
  • 1 fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth
  • 1 large bowl or pitcher
  • 1 mixing spoon
  • 1 glass jar or container
  • 1 Serving glass

Method

  1. Wash the apples well, then cut them into cubes or slices. Remove the seeds and core.
  2. Add the apples to a pot with 1 liter of water.
  3. Bring to a boil, then lower the heat and simmer for 15 minutes, or until the apples are soft.
  4. Let the mixture cool slightly.
  5. Blend the cooked apples together with the cooking water until smooth.
  6. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve or cheesecloth. Strain again if you want a cleaner, smoother juice.
  7. Stir the juice well, then pour it into a glass jar or container.
  8. Chill in the fridge until cold.
  9. Once cold, stir in honey if you want it sweeter. Add lemon juice if you want a fresher taste.
  10. Serve cold with ice, or enjoy it plain.
