- In a saucepan, add the water and butter. Heat until the butter melts and the mixture starts to simmer.
- Add the all-purpose flour and stir quickly until a dough forms and pulls away from the sides of the pan.
- Remove from the heat and let the dough cool slightly.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition.
- Stir in the vanilla extract until fully combined.
- Transfer the dough to a piping bag fitted with a star tip.
- Heat the oil in a deep skillet or pot over medium heat.
- Pipe the dough into the hot oil and fry until golden brown and crispy.
- Remove the churros and drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Coat with powdered sugar or drizzle with chocolate sauce before serving.
For Chocolate Sauce
- Add the heavy whipping cream and dark chocolate chips to a small saucepan.
- Heat over low heat, stirring until the chocolate melts and the sauce becomes smooth.
- Turn off the heat and serve warm with the churros.
