Ingredients

  • 52 grape tomatoes
  • 52 fresh mozzarella balls
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp Italian seasoning
  • sea salt to taste
  • freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • 52 small fresh basil leaves
  • balsamic glaze for drizzling
  • 52 small appetizer skewers or toothpicks

Equipment

  • 1 colander
  • 1 small mixing bowl
  • 1 spoon
  • 1 measuring spoon set
  • 1 serving platter
  • 1 roll paper towels
  • 52 small appetizer skewers or toothpicks

Method

  1. Wash the grape tomatoes and fresh basil leaves. Pat them dry well with paper towels.
  2. Drain the mozzarella balls and pat them dry so the skewers do not become watery.
  3. In a small bowl, stir together the olive oil, Italian seasoning, a pinch of sea salt, and black pepper.
  4. Add the mozzarella balls to the seasoned olive oil and toss gently until coated.
  5. Thread one grape tomato, one basil leaf, and one mozzarella ball onto each small skewer or toothpick. Repeat until all skewers are assembled.
  6. Arrange the Caprese skewers on a serving platter.
  7. Drizzle lightly with balsamic glaze right before serving.
  8. Add a little extra sea salt and black pepper on top, if desired.

Notes

  1. For the best flavor, use fresh mozzarella balls packed in water and drain them well before assembling. If the basil leaves are large, tear or fold them so they fit neatly on each skewer.
  2. You can assemble the skewers a few hours ahead, but add the balsamic glaze just before serving so the platter stays fresh and pretty.
