There is something to be said for the Apple Streusel Pizza as a way to put a more casual, fun spin on a classic. It is a sweet baked dessert with a soft crust and all the cozy flavor of an apple pie in its warm filling, then you have the buttery crumb topping and a light glaze of powdered sugar to finish it off. You can slice and share it without any fuss. It is just the thing for a weekend or a family get together in the fall, or any time you are in the mood for a bit of sweetness but don’t want to go to the trouble of making a whole pie from scratch.

Ingredients
  

For the Pizza
  • 1 to 1 1/2 cups apple pie filling
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon optional
  • 1 prepared pizza crust flatbread crust, or dessert pizza crust
For the Streusel Topping
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup butter cold or softened
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 dash salt
For the Powdered Sugar Glaze
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 1-2 tbsp milk or water
  • 1/4 tsp vanilla extract optional

Equipment

  • 1 oven
  • 1 baking sheet or pizza pan
  • 1 mixing bowl
  • 1 small bowl
  • 1 fork
  • 1 whisk
  • 1 measuring cup
  • 1 measuring spoon
  • 1 spatula or spoon
  • 1 knife or pizza cutter

Method
 

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F / 220°C.
  2. Place the pizza crust on a baking sheet or pizza pan.
  3. Spread the apple pie filling evenly over the crust, leaving a small border around the edges.
  4. Sprinkle cinnamon over the apple filling, if using.
  5. In a bowl, combine the flour, butter, sugar, vanilla extract, and salt.
  6. Mix with a fork or your fingertips until the mixture becomes crumbly.
  7. Sprinkle the streusel topping evenly over the apple filling.
  8. Bake for 15 minutes, or until the topping is lightly golden and the apple filling is warm and bubbly.
  9. In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar, milk or water, and vanilla until smooth.
  10. Drizzle the glaze over the warm pizza.
  11. Slice and enjoy while warm.

Notes

  1. For extra apple pie flavor, add a pinch of cinnamon or nutmeg to the streusel topping.
